Held by CTG Brasil, in partnership with Ashoka Brasil (non-profit organization), the Innovation Challenge in Sustainable Tourism already has 10 finalist projects - from 197 registered in the first phase, from all over Brazil. This is an action that aims to promote the development and strengthening of communities with social transformation.

.

The projects were evaluated in a first stage by volunteers from Ashoka and CTG Brasil and, from there, there was a deliberation in the project management committee, formed by the two companies, to elect the finalists. These initiatives reflect the diversity present and sought in the challenge since its conception, with projects related to rural and urban, peripheral, indigenous communities and with important gender, racial and regional cuts.

About CTG Brasil’s Challenge for Innovations in Sustainable Tourism

.

Tourism in Brazil was one of the most affected sectors by the Covid-19 pandemic and the policy of social isolation, with losses estimated to be R$ 62 billion for 2020. Under this scenario, the moment seems ideal for us to think about and encourage new ways of doing tourism.

.

CTG Brasil looks for innovative initiatives that focus on at least two of the four fundamental areas of sustainable tourism: Social, Cultural, Environmental and Economic. We started the project “Tracking Transformation: Challenging Innovations in Sustainable Tourism” with its Research & Development (R&D) resources regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL, in Portuguese), in partnership with global non-profit organization, Ashoka Brasil. The initiative will award three national projects focused on new tourism models that promote development and strengthen the communities where we operate and that generate social transformation.

What happens now?

The 10 finalist proposals will participate in the Challenge closing event, scheduled to take place until the first week of December. The occasion will include training activities, presentation of the finalists to the jury and launch of the Mapping of Innovations in Sustainable Tourism - in addition to the announcement of the 3 projects selected to receive the cash prize (R$ 100,000) and also mentoring during the year 2021.
